Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation is encouraging shark fans and divers to celebrate the oceans with friends and host a ‘Big Brew For The Blue’ fundraising get-together between 8-16 June, to coincide with World Ocean’s Day (8 June) 2024.
We hope the nationwide event will be the perfect excuse for individuals, clubs and groups to chat with others about their love for the oceans and prompt a conversation about conservation.
Campaign director for Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “Big Brew For The Blue is a brilliant opportunity for the ocean lovers to have fun with friends, talk about a topic that’s close to their heart and raise some money at the same time. Best of all who can say no to a cuppa and a nice slice of cake with mates.”
Already our supporters are planning to collect donations for hot drinks at work and others are enthusing about marine-themed cake and biscuit sales. In response, we’ve added a Big Brew For The Blue pack to the online shop that includes a FEAR LESS mug, danger stickers and a cookie recipe card, plus a great white and hammerhead cookie cutter to the online shop.
Graham Buckingham said: “People’s fear of sharks has made fundraising for our work difficult, so we love the idea that this event can foster greater admiration for the oceans, address some misconceptions about sharks, and encourage support for our brand new school’s programme and our campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products.”
It’s simple to be part of the Big Brew For The Blue. Choose your friends, give them plenty of notice, rustle up (or buy) some treats and have fun. You could organise a quiz, play some of your best underwater clips, share some interesting facts about your favourite marine species or just enjoy chatting about why the oceans are important to you.
