Bite-Back is an influential and pioneering shark and marine conservation charity with a mission to halt the trade and consumption of vulnerable fish species, promote sustainable fishing, protect ocean habitats and inspire worldwide respect for the marine environment. The web site features information about sharks along with other endangered fish species including swordfish, marlin, monkfish, skates and rays and highlights the threats to their survival imposed by over-fishing and over-consumption. Right now global demand is greater than the ocean’s natural resources and these increasingly rare fish are being killed faster than they can reproduce. Bite-Back is working to ‘devalue’ a dead shark by ending the profit opportunities for all shark and shark-derived products in the UK including shark fin soup, shark cartilage, shark jaws, shark teeth and oils. Its campaigns have captured the imagination and support of Bear Grylls, Gordon Ramsay, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Martin Clunes, Ben Fogle and Charles Clover along with some of the very best underwater photographers in the world.
